On the upper-level of Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, an artist’s playful depiction of birds draws a direct connection to the hospital floor’s “Bright Horizons” sky-inspired theme. The abstract piece created by painter Jeff Kapfer was selected for its minimalistic, universal approach in representing through shapes and lines a flock of birds flying overhead.
Continuing the outdoor aerial theme, the piece supports the goal of providing in-patient viewers, visitors, and staff with pleasant distractions of outdoor scenes. The art may appeal to nature lovers and bird watchers or could remind someone of the time spent in Missouri outdoors. The color green was used to complement the rich pallet of the hospital interior and connect to the woodsy and rustic decor of the hospital.
