Call for Artists

Contact Emails:

Call Type: Proposal

Eligibility: Artists within the St. Louis Metropolitan Area

Entry Deadline: 7/31/2020, by 5:00pm Central

Square seeks proposals for art to be displayed throughout the renovated space at 900 N. Tucker, the former Post-Dispatch Headquarters. The North Tucker building, originally completed in 1931 and then sold to the Post-Dispatch in 1959, is an example of Art-Deco design for industrial buildings.

Square believes everyone should be able to participate and thrive in the economy. No one should be left out because the cost is too great or the technology too complex. So, we’re building tools to empower and enrich people. Tools that shorten the distance between having an idea and making a living from it – because we believe in fair and square. We started with a little white card reader but haven’t stopped there. Let’s shorten the distance between having an idea and making a living from it. We’re here to help sellers of all sizes start, run, and grow their business – and helping them grow their business is good business for everyone.

  • Artistically express how you, as the artist, interpret Square’s mission of economic empowerment, while reflecting the region’s rich culture and diversity.
  • Explore the intersection between economic empowerment, the legacy of the newspaper industry, and the evolution of technology.
  • NOTE: The Square logo should not be included in the art piece. We are excited to see interpretations of the purpose of economic empowerment – branding is not an essential element.

The selection committee will consider all submissions based on the following criteria:

  • Completed application materials (as outlined in the submission process)
  • Originality, creativity, and concept as it relates to economic empowerment
  • Appropriateness for an interior workplace
  • Artist Statement

The sizes to accommodate local art range from 106’ – 1,267’ square feet. All visual media, styles, and techniques are invited.

The visual art content should be suitable and appropriate for an interior workplace.

Open to artists of all ages and artistic media – within the St. Louis Metropolitan area.
