About the Artwork
Our client’s vision for the upper levels of Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital was to instill hope through sky-related imagery like birds, hot air balloons, and clouds to illustrate the theme of “Bright Horizons.” In keeping with the theme, local St. Louis artist Jeff Kapfer was commissioned to paint a flock of birds in his signature abstract style.
With its minimalistic and modern appeal, the painting, titled “Flight,” is lighthearted with an attractive simplicity. A flock of birds is represented through shapes and strong lines, rather than intricate detail.
The commissioned piece complements the woodsy and rustic interior finishes throughout the hospital.
About the Artist
St. Louis artist Jeff Kapfer harnesses his childhood love of birds and themes from everyday life as inspiration for his bright, bold paintings.
Employing his background in graphic design, he makes use of both contrasting and monochromatic color schemes against distinct black lines to create his playful and lively paintings. Colorfully recognizable in his identifiable style, Kapfer’s work is featured throughout the region.
