BJC Outpatient Center at Edwardsville features canvas and framed prints, metal prints, and decorative wall graphics depicting a mix of photography, representational, and abstract artwork. BJC HealthCare employs design standards across its hospitals, medical offices, and outpatient centers to ensure the design of each location offers patients a sense of familiarity and comfort.

The project features local and regional artists Aly Ytterberg, M. Shawn Cornell, Hannah Smith, Jennifer Mishra, Scott Rackers, Larry Braun, Burt Remis, and Jane Linders. This unique collection combines a variety of styles to resonate with a broad audience and encourage a supportive, healing environment.

A collection of framed, canvas, and metal prints by Aly Ytterberg are displayed at the main entrance and scattered throughout the space. Ytterberg’s compositions are relaxing and calming, and feature abstract landscapes and familiar local landmarks like the Gateway Arch and Saint Louis Zoo. Colorful nature prints of recognizable flora by M. Shawn Cornell and Hannah Smith also contribute to the soothing atmosphere.

The hallways are lined with framed photography by Jennifer Mishra, Scott Rackers, Larry Braun, and Burt Remis. The photographs show nearby urban landscapes mixed with scenes from the surrounding Illinois countryside. The artists’ individual works complement one another and deliver an exceptional balance of muted and bright colors. Infrared photographs of Shaw Nature Reserve and botanical abstract art prints by photographer Jane Linders appear throughout the space as well.

In the imaging suite, where traditional artwork cannot be hung due to its metal components, a scenic wall graphic offers patients a welcomed distraction during treatments. In pediatric areas, the artwork incorporates bright colors and illustrations to resonate with a younger audience.
