Mercy Center for Performance Medicine

The art program at Mercy Center for Performance Medicine aligns with Mercy’s commitment to creating healing and uplifting environments for patients and their families. The artwork program adds to the overall calming environment, improving the experience of the space. The project also features distinctive landmarks that enhance wayfinding and navigation for patients, visitors, and staff while connecting to Mercy’s spiritual roots.

Evidence-based design suggests regionally inspired nature art can support a calming environment and help reduce stress and anxiety. Images of sun-kissed forests, winding rivers, and native dogwood flowers capture scenes one might encounter on a leisurely afternoon walk. Other imagery includes budding trees in early spring and meadows of bright coneflowers, symbolizing new beginnings and growth. In the exam rooms, framed macro photography depicting flowers and plants offers patients a serene glimpse of nature.

The sports medicine and physical therapy floor features framed prints showing people living healthy, active lifestyles, much like the individuals and athletes who receive care at the facility. Snapshots of favorite pastimes like baseball, fishing, and hiking encourage movement and inspire connections among patients and their families.

The oversized abstract canvas art in the elevator banks serves as distinctive landmarks to improve wayfinding and navigation. Inspired by biblical passages and psalms, these colorful geometric prints invite viewers to reflect on their spirituality while they focus on regaining their physical strength.
