About the Artwork

The goal for Siteman Cancer Center at Northwest HealthCare was to create a bright and colorful healing environment representing the power and strength of a well-connected community. Local artist Doug Weaver was commissioned to create a painting for the center’s community room.

Weaver created the oil painting Spanish Lake Park with fond memories in mind. As a resident of the area, he and his family have enjoyed many days of relaxing at Spanish Lake Park.

Progress Photos

The artist’s decision to show an aerial view of the park with the city of St. Louis in the distance reveals its proximity to the greater metropolitan area. The train tracks and the Mississippi River, both leading downtown, represent the connection between the city and the county. The commissioned painting represents the strength of connected communities, highlighting the client’s chosen design theme, “The Power of Many.”
