About the Artwork

Local artist Jennifer Hayes was commissioned to create a bright abstract painting depicting an iconic century-old landmark as part of the museum-themed floor at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Using multiple layers of acrylic paint to create vibrant colors and thick textures, Hayes reimagined the traditional bronze statue of Louis IX of France standing outside the Saint Louis Art Museum as a contemporary abstract painting. Her painting style captivates the viewer’s attention through its striking colors and eye-catching layers.

About the Artist

St. Louis-based artist Jennifer Hayes is an abstract and figurative painter. Her paintings use multiple layers of bright colors, strong lines, and textures to add energy to the subject and generate a bold statement. Upon closer inspection, her paintings unveil details of fine lines, subtleties of additional layers, and fine intricacies. For Hayes, the great thing about making art is that “the only rules you have to follow are the ones you decide are important. There is a great amount of freedom in creating art.”
