The vision for O’Quinn Medical Tower at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center centered on creating a space that would break away from traditional clinical settings. The result is a modern environment filled with vibrant abstract artwork that supports intuitive wayfinding and resonates with a broad patient population, all while maintaining a cohesive and balanced design.
The 12-story comprehensive cancer center combines various artistic mediums, textures, and patterns to add an energetic pop of color to the contemporary minimalist interior. Color palettes were assigned to specific floors and departments to visually differentiate the areas and promote improved wayfinding. Each piece was carefully selected to complement the surrounding artwork and support our client’s vision.
The project also features 21 commissioned works of art from 15 artists, including Texas local artists Annie Lockhart, Meredith Pardue, Rosemary Pierce, Andrea Pramuk, and Priscilla Robinson. The artists added several personal touches to the extraordinary pieces and incorporated unique materials such as eggshells, fabric, handmade paper, and more.
ARCH collaborated with CommonSpirit Health and HKS Architects to ensure the fine art display lighting and recessed wall niches installed in elevator banks and other high-traffic locations would highlight and draw attention to the art. The artwork throughout O’Quinn Medical Tower supports an energizing and inviting atmosphere, capturing the interest of all who visit the state-of-the-art cancer treatment center.
