Research Medical Center

HCA Midwest Health sought to incorporate hospitality design principles to create a more modern and comfortable atmosphere for their patients and visitors at Research Medical Center. ARCH Design worked closely with the client to design a calming art package featuring contemporary abstracts and a variety of color palettes to achieve the desired aesthetic.

In a long, light-filled corridor at the front of the building, there are 45 metal art prints portraying a subtle gradient that transitions over the entirety of the hallway. The colors move from a deep indigo-blue and red-orange to a bright blue and yellow-orange. The alluring display is intended to mimic the tranquil Midwest horizon and can be seen through the windows from the outside of the building. The vibrant color schemes seen in the artwork adorning the corridors and waiting rooms serve as a reminder of inspiration and positivity.

Artwork with more tranquil, relaxed palettes of blues and beiges are displayed in the Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Center and are intended to reduce stress levels in patients receiving treatments. Commissioned original paintings by Tennessee-based artist Shannon Futules greet patients and visitors at the entrance. Her abstract paintings follow the soothing color palette chosen for the area and were finished with a heavy varnish to offer added protection.

Several pieces of framed artwork in the waiting areas were created by the art consultant who guided the project. In addition to her full time role as a senior art consultant at ARCH, Connie is also an abstract artist. She applied mixed media on paper to create original artwork featuring vibrant floods of color and energetic line work. Her pieces were framed using a deckled edge technique to add texture and dimension.
