The SLUCare Department of OB/GYN and Women’s Health sought to bring life to their office and patient spaces by incorporating a mix of canvas and framed prints designed to relax both patients and staff in a potentially high-stress environment. ARCH collaborated with the client to identify their needs and determine the best strategy for the budget. The project was divided into two phases to maximize both the client’s budget and the impact the artwork would have on the space. The first phase focused on high-traffic areas, such as the waiting rooms and check-in areas; the second phase included the corridors and exam rooms.
The art follows Evidence-Based Design practices of using macro photography and landscapes featuring calm, bright, nature scenes. Rather than selecting strictly regional imagery, the subject matter was focused solely on the mood it needed to convey. For example, the stillness of a beach or the tranquility of a water scene was found to have a calming effect. The result is a relaxing atmosphere that improves positivity and promotes healing.
