Block, Inc.

About the Artwork

FLOURISH is a vibrant photo-based textile installation that consists of a combination of three textile designs: “Champions in Reach” (inner), “Soaring in Synchrony” (border), and “Givers and Takers” (outer). The above titles embody a progressive, collective, and inclusive sensibility, which is at the heart of what Block stands for.

FLOURISH is the result of the interplay of the three titles, and a reminder that achieving one’s goal is attainable. Each of the three textiles are characterized by a range of hand gestures, skin tones, and vibrant color pigments coming together to visually express ideas of interconnectivity, outreach, touch, influence, and the impact one can make on another.

Installation Concept

In FLOURISH, the hands are used as a metaphor to represent interactivity, collective building, and commerce. As humans, our hands are a powerful tool for work. We write, drive, carry, and cook by using our hands. With technology today, our hands have become an even more useful tool for the furtherance of our online presence and engagement. Through typing, clicking, scrolling, swiping, liking, and e-signing, the feature of the hand continues to be ever present.

In many ways, Block represents the space that promotes the blends of vibrant colors and outburst of energy created by intertwined hand gestures and varying movements as seen in FLOURISH.

The Result

The company’s mission and values are echoed in this textile installation, as Block provides a thriving platform where everyone can personalize their
e-commerce identity and influence the global trade community.

FLOURISH reveals a great sense of diversity through the spectrum of colors and complexions depicted. It celebrates a spirit of inspiration, achieving, and solidarity. The work reflects the spectrum of clients with all forms of abilities that Block continues to serve—no one will indeed be left out of the economy because the cost is too great or the technology too complex.
