Acoustic Artwork Helps Reduce Echoes in a Hospital Atrium

The height and open layout of Monument Health Custer Hospital’s atrium make sound control an important consideration. Above the entry, a large-scale acoustic artwork panel spans the wall between timber columns, helping absorb excess noise and reduce echoes from conversations and daily activity below. The photograph shows a bison silhouetted against a vivid sunset, connecting the hospital in Custer, South Dakota, to the surrounding region. Positioned high on the wall, the artwork can be seen across the atrium and brings an acoustic function to one of its most visible surfaces.
