Our client communicated several objectives for the new Bradley-Thompson Tower at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Tyler. For the artwork, they wanted various imagery and styles to convey the importance of faith and spirituality in a universally appealing way. ARCH collaborated with CHRISTUS Health’s Mission Integration Team to creatively incorporate symbols and elements related to their brand and mission throughout the project.

ARCH worked with the Mission Integration Team to design a 135-foot long history wall to tell their story and communicate their brand identity. The custom display depicts milestones dating back to 1846 and recognizes the heritage of their sponsoring congregations. The timeline also incorporates branding elements such as their color palette, a flowing banner weaving around the outside, and sections communicating their mission and values. The piece aims to strengthen the connection between the organization and the patients and families they serve. Three acrylic prints resembling stained glass were designed by the ARCH team and installed adjacent to the history timeline. The trio of pieces is symbolic of the three sponsoring congregations, and for some, may allude to the Holy Trinity.

In addition to framed and canvas prints in a range of styles, the project also encompasses several commissioned works of art created by accomplished artists across the country. A suspended ceiling sculpture commissioned from renowned artist Talley Fisher guides patients and visitors through the atrium. The organization’s color palette inspired its design, and its shape mimics the flowing banner seen in the CHRISTUS Health logo. The finished sculpture conveys a sense of motion as it extends down the main corridor, representing the concept of moving forward into a new era of service to the community.

Local artist John Randall York created original watercolor paintings depicting three chapels significant to CHRISTUS Health’s history. Artist Kyle Harrington created a white wave-like sculpture representing the fluidity and motion of pastures and water referenced in the biblical passage displayed below the piece. A pair of commissioned works from Texas artist Priscilla Robinson, titled “Dawn” and “The Light,” accompany biblical passages that send an uplifting message to patients and their families.

The new tower’s resulting aesthetic evokes a sense of peace and, ultimately, hope, staying true to the hospital’s history and mission of faith-inspired healing.
