Wooden Wavescapes

Location

La Jolla, California

The Vision

For Belmont Village Senior Living La Jolla, our art consultants took inspiration from the local landscape, regional flora and fauna, and beachy lifestyle. Our client wanted to enhance the luxurious seaside senior living experience by featuring a series of custom paintings. The artwork would appear in two locations and seamlessly blend with the other pieces on the floor to create a cohesive design.

The Concept

Our art consultant conceptualized a series of mixed-media abstract interpretations of the Pacific coast sunset. She proposed five high-gloss round wooden wavescapes to carry the circular shape across the artwork featured on the floor.

The colors of each piece would reflect the California horizon, and the additional texture would echo the rippling waves and the movement of the sea.

The Process

The artist began with five circular wooden disks and used a special technique to apply texture using several layers of gesso and paint. This method resulted in a rough, colorful surface full of depth and dimension.

The Result

The original wooden wavescape paintings seamlessly blend with the ocean-inspired design seen throughout the luxurious seaside residence. The paintings are beautiful from a distance, and upon closer inspection, viewers can truly appreciate the finer details of the rich texture and colors.
